This musical advent calendar comes with a power cord and plug so there is no need for batteries.  Once it is plugged in you can turn it on with the switch on the back and hear the song "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" play while enjoying the festive lights.  Once the song is done playing you can leave the lights on to enjoy their festive holiday feeling.  The switch on the back controls both the lights and music.
