We are seeking a dynamic Controller to join our close-knit team at our small family-owned business. Job Summary:
The Byers’ Choice Controller leads the company’s accounting department, oversees the responsibilities of the senior accountant and accounting clerk, and reports directly to the owners.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
- Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Recommends benchmarks that will be used to measure the company’s performance.
- Produces annual projections and reports significant differences to management.
- Provides quarterly financial analysis.
- Oversees accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll activities.
- Supervises cash procedures and monitor cash balances.
- Oversees and assists with cycle counting and annual physical inventory.
- Works with external accounting firms and provides needed information for the annual review.
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
- Assists in the planning and execution of special events (1-3 weekends/year).
- Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration required.
- Ten years or more of related experience required.
- Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred.
- Experience in cost accounting and manufacturing industry is desirable.
- Experience with retail and wholesale sales is desirable.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
