Gerald Dickens returns to Byers' Choice! Gerald is the great-great grandson of Charles Dickens. Mr. Dickens will perform "Nicholas Nickleby" by Charles Dickens. This story follows the titular character's journey after his father's death leaves the family in poverty. Seeking help from his wealthy uncle, Ralph Nickleby, Nicholas is instead sent to work at the abusive Dotheboys Hall, a school for boys, run by the cruel Wackford Squeers. Escaping with a mistreated student named Smike, Nicholas navigates various challenges, including protecting his sister Kate from predatory suitors and ultimately finding refuge and support with the benevolent Cheeryble brothers. The story explores themes of social injustice, family, and resilience amidst hardship in Victorian England.
