The Black forest region of Germany is famous for their hand-carved grandfather and cukoo clocks. The forest itself provided an ample supply of wood for the craftsmen to work with, and when other trades, such as mining became less common in the region during the 1800's, more and more people turned to clock making to make a living.

Over time, clocks from the Black Forest grew in popularity throughout Germany, Europe, and eventually around the world. Today there are still clockmakers working in the Black Forest, hand carving the cases and pieces of each clock into intricate and beautiful designs that are sold the world over.
