A Dickens of a Weekend at Byers' Choice Ltd.
Sept. 14th; 5:30 p.m.
Sept. 15th – 16th; 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Byers' Choice is converting its production floor into a 19th century London street market for a weekend of British fun, food and entertainment!
For Byers' Choice enthusiasts, there will be an opportunity to see how our Caroler® figures are made, a chance to talk to the artisans and learn how a coat hanger from your closet can be transformed into a very special Christmas decoration. You can even design your own ‘one-of-a-kind’ Caroler or Witch figurine and have a Byers’ Choice craftsman dress it for you.
‘Old Friends’ (retired Carolers) will be for sale to anyone searching for that special piece to complete a set, or to collectors who enjoy the older faces and bases.
The street market will be filled with carts and stalls offering British wares such as jewelry, accessories, antiques, and British toys. You will be able to watch demonstrations of British cooking and taste foods such as "Bubble and Squeak” or “Spotted Dick.” Salvation Army soup will be available for lunch, plus gourmet cupcakes and a spot of tea. Can you taste the difference between British and Bucks Co. beer? Perhaps you would like to try!
A section of our warehouse will be converted into a theater. Here Gerald Dickens will perform selections from his great-great grandfather’s writings. Other entertainment will include magic lantern shows and “Unlacing the Victorian Woman.” For times and prices for these performances, please check our Dickens Celebration page. To ensure a seat for a particular performance, you may want to purchase your ticket(s) online soon.
Other entertainment will include Professor Horn and his ‘Punch & Judy’ show, madrigal singers from CB West and ‘Seasons’ playing Celtic music.
Artist James Fiorentino, famous for his sport celebrity illustrations, has drawn a portrait of Charles Dickens. Prints will be available. James will be demonstrating his art.
If you missed the Queen’s Birthday Party and the summer Olympics, you still have an opportunity to pick-up a little bit of that British spirit. So dust off your bowler and ‘put on’ your jumper, we are looking forward to seeing you September 14th, 15th & 16th – Cheerio!
